RSMS U16 side steps up preparations

The Ratu Sukuna Memorial School under-16 rugby team is focused on stepping up their performance as they prepare to take on Suva Grammar School in the Vodafone Deans Southern Zone Secondary Schools Rugby semi-finals tomorrow.

Despite the challenging weather, the team has been dedicated to improving and addressing their weaknesses.

Team captain Peni Nawai emphasized the importance of this week in their preparation, mentioning that training has been intense as they aim to give their best performance.

“We had a tough week of training because this is a really important time for us to do our best, the weather has been cold and the grounds haven’t been great, but we found a way to train and prepare ourselves for this challenge,” said Nawai.

Nawai acknowledged that their last match highlighted areas for improvement.

“Our focus this week has been on improving our lineout skills after making a lot of mistakes in that area during our last match.

“We have also been working on our defence so we can be at our best when we face Suva Grammar School.

“As the only U16 team representing our school, there’s a lot of pressure on us, but we’re excited and looking forward to the game.

“Suva Grammar School is a strong opponent with a lot of experience in the Deans competition, but we’re ready to take them on,” said Nawai.

Having reached the national quarter-finals last year, the RSMS team is determined to surpass that achievement and advance to the final this year.
