Boxing event in Navua

The Navua community is set to witness an historic event today, as the first Amateur Boxing competition is set to take place at Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School, hosted by the new Kwaca Na Vatu Boxing Club.

With 25 bouts expected to showcase the skills and talent of the local boxers, there is much anticipation and excitement leading up to the event.

Fiji Amateur Boxing head coach Cam Todd has expressed his enthusiasm for the growth of the sport in Navua, noting the significant interest shown by the youth following a boxing clinic earlier this year.

“The competition is not only a platform for the boxers to display their abilities but also serves as a fundraiser for the newly established club,” said Todd.

“We are hoping for somewhere between 25-35 fights, and it’s quite exciting because it’s the first time they are having an Amateur Boxing competition in Navua.”

Todd is hopeful for a successful event, with expectations of a crowd turnout and a promising display of talent from the young participants.

“The Amateur Boxing competition in Navua is a milestone for the sport, we have plans to expand to other communities across the country for greater exposure and development of the boxers.

The inclusion of both male and female boxers in various age categories adds to the diversity and excitement of the competition.

We will also have the boxers who recently competed in the Oceania games, the event promises to be a showcase of skill and dedication from all the participants.”

Todd encourages the Navua community to come out and show their support for their local club and the revival of Amateur Boxing in Fiji.
