Osea proud of boys

Fiji Men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance at the Paris Olympics 2024, despite falling short in the final and settling for a silver medal.

Upon their arrival in Nadi yesterday morning, both the men’s and women’s teams were warmly welcomed at the Tanoa International Hotel, where they were greeted with a traditional and passionate welcoming ceremony.

Kolinisau reflected on the team’s journey, noting that everything had gone according to plan until the final match against hosts France, where they experienced a narrow defeat.

“Great to be back in the country and getting back to our loved ones, great to see everyone,” said Kolinisau.

“Everything went according to plan at the Olympics, until the last game against hosts France, where we lost and got a different colour medal, but the boys did well.

Kolinisau commended the team for their efforts and reminded them of the significance of winning a silver medal at the Olympics.

“I got together with the boys and told them, they did a good job a silver medal in the Olympic comes every four-years, and it’s something to be proud of.

Kolinisau also expressed his desire to continue coaching the team but acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with the Fiji Rugby Union and the board.

“From here I must sit with the Fiji Rugby Union and the board course my contract runs till the Olympics.

“Let’s see what they want, and I would love to stay but it’s up to them, but I’m proud of the boys, and the new players that went there is a lot of youngsters in the team excited for their performance,” he added.

“If FRU give me a chance to coach for the next Olympic, it will be a great opportunity to build my players for four years from now.”

Acknowledging the support of the public and their families, Kolinisau emphasised the role that fans played in the team’s success.

He expressed gratitude for their unwavering support and credited them for being an essential part of the team’s journey.
