A total of 580 students participated in the Central Eastern Council of Special and Inclusive Educators Games, held at FMF Gymnasium in Suva yesterday.
The two-day competition concluded yesterday, with eight special schools and two inclusive schools taking part in sports such as Soccer, Netball, Table Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, and Standing Volleyball.
Deepak Sanjay Singh, the President of CECSIE, highlighted the importance of expanding games and competitions for children with disabilities to identify talented individuals for potential national representation.
“The competitive nature of the games excited the children, motivating them to strive for victory and the chance to win trophies,” said Singh.
“These types of events also help us the sporting organizations identify young athletes who can have the pathway to represent the country in the various sports that we have.
“The 2020 regional game and similar events aim to raise community awareness about the rightful place of children with special needs in society.
“The goal is to foster inclusivity and acceptance, providing a platform for these children to showcase their talents and enhance their social skills beyond their comfort zones.
“Interaction with peers from inclusive schools like Arya Samaj Primary School and Ratu Latianara Primary School promotes awareness and showcases the capabilities and enjoyment these children possess.”
