THE Fiji Fashion Student Designers Show presented by Fiji Water continues to shine as one of the most exciting and meaningful platforms within Fiji Fashion Week, placing the spotlight firmly on the country’s next generation of creative talent.
Widely regarded as the “future in fashion,” the show brings together secondary school students from across Fiji, offering them the opportunity to present their own mini collections on a professional runway.
Each participating school showcases a collection of four garments, allowing students to fully explore their creativity, from concept to execution.
What makes the Student Designers Show particularly special is its role in shaping young minds and opening doors into the fashion industry. It is more than just a showcase — it is a learning experience that builds confidence, discipline, and innovation.
Students are exposed to real industry standards, gaining valuable insight into design, production, and presentation while being mentored and guided along the way.
The show has also grown significantly over the years, both in scale and popularity. With more than 60 schools now participating nationwide, it reflects a growing interest in fashion among Fiji’s youth and highlights the increasing recognition of creative industries as viable career paths.
Its popularity extends beyond the participants.
The Student Designers Show has become one of the most well-attended events on the Fiji Fashion Week calendar, drawing large crowds eager to witness fresh ideas and bold new talent.
Last year alone, more than 800 people attended the show — a clear indication of the strong support from families, communities, and the wider fashion industry.
Importantly, the platform has already proven its ability to launch successful careers. Several of Fiji’s now established designers began their journeys through the Student Designers Show, including Kess Baleirara, Laisiasa Davetawalu and Cherish Prasad, to name a few. Their success stories continue to inspire a new wave of students to pursue fashion seriously and confidently.
Designer relations manager for Fiji Fashion Week, Taniela Matanimeke, said the continued growth of the program has been inspiring to witness.
“Every year the number of schools keeps increasing. It’s amazing to watch our school students tap into their creative side through fashion,” he said.
This steady rise in participation underscores the importance of the platform in nurturing emerging designers at an early stage.
Beyond the runway, the show represents something deeper — a celebration of youth, culture, and self-expression.
Students often draw inspiration from their heritage, environment, and personal stories, resulting in collections that are not only visually striking but also rich in meaning.
As anticipation builds for this year’s event, the Fiji Fashion Student Designers Show remains a powerful reminder that the future of Fijian fashion is already here — bold, creative, and ready to take on the world.
