LAUTOKA Delana Primary School teacher Roneel Prakash tuned up for the upcoming national events with an authoritative victory in the Tesla Components-sponsored stroke event at Lautoka Golf Club on Saturday.
Prakash fired a three under par 66 to clinch the title. He played excellent golf in very windy conditions to beat Lawrence Naidu by a shot with Dr. Vimal Murthi finishing third with 68 nett. Pritam Singh was fourth and Anil Kumar was fifth on 69.
Prakash brushed aside his disappointing outing at the recent Lautoka Open with an excellent round in Saturday’s event as he finetuned his game in wake of the Ba Open which has eluded him for a very long time.
“I have been playing golf for some time, but the Ba Open has been elusive. I hope this week I can break this run of outs,” he said.
Prakash has been selected to represent Fiji alongside Olaf Allen Jr at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships in South Korea next month. He will use the upcoming tournaments as a dress rehearsal with the aim to be world ranked at the event.
Meanwhile, Surendra Pillay and Richard Eyre claimed the Islands Electric Two Men Ambrose with a net score of 60.5. The duo beat the combination of Zabir Ali and Mohammed Imtiyaz by less than half a shot. Roneel Prakash and Gaffar Ali also shot 60.75 but were relegated to third place because of a countback.
