Update: 5:57PM 1998-FIJI Sports Hall of Fame inductee Mereoni Vibose will participate in the World Masters Athletics Championship (WMAC) to be held in Perth, Australia from October 26 to November 2.

Vibose said she received the news of the competition through an old friend and former Australian javelin champion Mary Thomas last year.

Being a former Pacific Games gold medallist herself, Vibose said she had been training since then.

“I will be taking part in four events at the championships – javelin, shot-put, discus and hammer throw,” she said.

Her preparation and training were all done in Raiwaqa village in Nadroga where she hails from.

She said she had a javelin and a discus disc but for shot put she had to resort to getting a round rock from the Ruwailevu River next to her village.
