Raiwaqa Flyers to host Monica memorial tourney

THE Raiwaqa Flyers Touch Rugby Club will be hosting the Monica Cup tournament at Albert Park in Suva this weekend.

It would be a memorial tournament for the late Monica Komaisavai who was a gifted and highly skilled founding member of the Raiwaqa Flyers team.

Raiwaqa Flyers manager Lorima Jitoko said: “We set-up a memorial tournament for her because of the impacting role she had on the development of the sport.”

He said this tournament was just a little something for them to remember her by.

Part of proceeds from the tournament would be used to set up a trus tfund for Komaisavai’s son, Benjamin Machael Tuiloma’s secondary and tertiary education.

“There will be two categories in the tournament; the business house and clubs categories and they will be played in the open mix grade only.

“Twelve club teams have registered with the likes of Untouchable Mozzies, 2Fresh, Silver Brothers, Bombers, Bulldogs, Davi Magics, Mix 40s, Spartans and Maximus being from Suva while 2Fresh (West), Namaka Mozzies and Taki Mai from Nadi.

“RBF, ANZ, Water Authority, TFL, Coca-Cola Amatil, Fiji Revenue Customs & Authority (FRCA), aapi Designs and Ministry of Local Government, Housing & Environment will compete in the business house category.”

Registration fee for the tournament is $100 per team and is expected to kick off at 10am at Albert Park tomorrow.
