Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association (FPSAA) president Patrick Bower stressed the need to include the cost of a paid secretary that would ensure the professional handling of tasks.
“Teachers have enough on their plate and cannot handle the organising of these meets without this assistance,” Bower said.
He said there were other areas that should be incorporated into their budgets but were often taken for granted and overlooked.
Then he said FPSAA had always been invited to assist with the training of the technical officials.
“This training is offered to the officials before the district meets so that the meets are run professionally.”
“Selecting organisers who truly appreciate the importance of their role plays in the development of heart issues (character) in the children’s lives.
He said they needed to organise workshops that were based on developing positive character traits for our officials.
“As we are still getting an element of dishonesty filtering through the system every year. How can we develop our future leaders if the current officials themselves find it difficult to play the game fairly with utmost honesty?”
