THE World Bank is working with the Fijian Government on how it can do more for Fiji in terms of development assistance.
World Bank’s East Asia and Pacific vice-president Victoria Kwakwa said they also discussed with the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum the partnership.
“Since 2015, we’re working with Fiji on the transport infrastructure, an investment alongside Asian Development Bank,” Ms Kwakwa said yesterday.
“And we’ve discussed other possible areas that we can work in to really help optimise Fiji’s location and a potential role as a regional hub and how that vision can come into benefiting not only Fiji but also other countries in the region.
“We’ve had very substantive discussions.
“We’ve also have been talking to youth groups and also talking to other development partners to see how they see Fiji and how we can work with them.
“Working closely with ADB on some of the funding we provide is coming in from the Government’s work.
“As I said, we are already working on a transport infrastructure operation that is under implementation.”
She said there would be other areas the World Bank would look into during conversation with Government on how they could do more.
“We are beginning preparation of what we call systematic diagnostic which will form the basis of our strategy documents,” she said.
