THE Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre hosted a four-day workshop for the Fiji National Rugby League and National Rugby League in Fiji to increase the knowledge and improve understanding on violence against women and girls.
The FWCC has been working very closely with Fiji National Rugby League and National Rugby League to eliminate violence against women and girls.
Violence against women participants and Fiji Residents player Anisito Komai said the workshop was very beneficial and was a good learning experience.
“For me personally I’ve learnt a lot of new things during the workshop, especially the importance of women in our society and how to treat women equally” said Komai.
“As a rugby league player it is my duty to protect women and also preach the importance of women in our society and do whatever I can to ensure that women are safe”.
The reason for the workshop was to help men change their views towards women and also protect them.
“The whole purpose of the workshop was to understand the importance of women in our society and as a male advocator I can change the mind-set of men against the women and as a rugby league player I have to be a role model to young children growing up which has been my dream as a child growing up”
Fiji National Rugby League Development officer Etonia Nawesetawa said this program would now be part of their clinic to preach the importance of women in our society.
“Now we will put into actions this program as part of our clinic especially with us male protecting our women and it is important for us to do this and preach to the club member.”
