COMMUNITY members of Nanuku settlement in Natabua, Lautoka have requested the State to allow them a stretch of road to help them have better access to transportation, medical and education services.

Their request stems from the closure of the existing crossing, fenced off because of the construction of the women’s correction complex in Natabua.

Nanuku settlement resident Sevanaia Druma said they had written to the Lands Department regarding the matter.

“We understand that it is crown land but there was no consultation done whatsoever with the residents,” he said.

“Sealing off the road means we have to walk 150 metres to the main road before walking up through Natabua road to access services.

“If they still intend to seal off the road, we are just requesting that we be allowed a stretch next to the complex to ensure that we access the services in Natabua to make it easier for our elderly and safer as well for our children.”

Questions sent to Minister for Lands Faiyaz Koya remain unanswered.
