By 12 noon yesterday, strong advice to the people living in tents and low lying areas to move elsewhere for safety had started coming in from DISMAC.

People in tents were urged to unfold and move to neighbours and evacuation centres without any delay.

The advisory was obviously issued in the wake of a tropical depression hovering over Fiji this week. In the cyclone season these people whose houses were completely destroyed by Winston will be subjected to leave their properties every time a threat looms.

As soon as we give them a decent shelter, their nightmare ends. These unfortunate victims of natural force do not deserve living in tents. Therefore I believe priority must be given to provide them with basic home shelter. At this juncture, I would like to acknowledge the overwhelming support rendered to the victims of monster Cyclone Winston by the Government but more needs to be done.
