Drua wants Fiji spot

XAVIER College student Meresiana Drua aims to make in the 12-member team that will represent Fiji in the International Secondary Schools netball competition in two weeks time.

The Tavualevu, Tavua lass said being the only girl from the West motivated her to try and make it in the final cut for the Fiji U19 team.

“I always say that I am a good netball player, but coming in for the trials and playing with these young girls gave me a different perspective and feeling.

“Seeing the girls play I nearly lost hope because they were all good players.

“Anyone can play netball these days even if you have the height or not, as long as you know the skills you can make it

“Seeing the Suva-based players and how professional they are compared with us from the West I know they have the facilities and everything so it motivates me to try harder if I want to be in the top 12,” Drua said.

The 16-year-old is a goal shooter is also a defender and she said making the 17-member squad was a good luck for her and they all looking forward to the final announcement this weekend.

“For me I am trying to adapt to the training style and getting in to the groove with the other girls and also I am trying to improve on my punctuality because I always come late.

“Our coaches are training me to try out as a defender. We have good defenders like Mere Nuku and also we got good shooters and for me I know I can make it through.

“It’s a matter of having faith and working towards your goal,’ she said.

She gave credit to the coaches Filomena Korovulavula and Seruwaia Vonolagi.

“They always tell me that I can do it which motivates me and it builds up my morale,’ she said.
