Baber: It takes time and patience

DEVELOPMENT of players along with working the right combination takes time and patience.

Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber made this statement during an interview at the Uprising Beach Resort, Pacific Harbour yesterday.

“Every time we go to a tournament people want to see something different. We played some great rugby, notably in semi-finals and finals in Hong Kong.”

He said that was the result of the mixture of experienced players and young players and he would continue developing those combinations.

“We have got to be patient with some of those and making sure that they have the opportunity to be put under pressure and but also they will make mistakes. But some of the stuff they do are superb as well. See what Kalione Nasoko did in the final at Hong Kong which is the best tournament in the world to win for Fiji and I think he is outstanding and I want to see more of that.

“But I can’t always guarantee that is always going to happen because I’m not in the position to be saying that and it also depends on the mental preparation of the player as well,” he said.

Baber added they had developed a training system that would enable the young players to be developed quickly in the best proper high pressure environments of the game.
