TWO former Fiji 7s reps from Bua, William Ryder and Rupeni Caucaunibuca join Silverwaters Rugby Club to help nurture and develop young upcoming talents.

According to Ryder, this was one way he could give back to Fiji and especially to the game of rugby.

“My aim as coach and player of the team is teach as much as I can to the upcoming players and help them in whatever ways I can,” Ryder said.

The team have been training at the Nakasi High School grounds preparing for the upcoming Nawaka 7s in Nadi this weekend.

He said their team consisted not only of players from the Bau district in Tailevu, but from the 14 provinces of Fiji.

Caucaunibuca said being involved in rugby after a lapse of three years was not planned.

“I would like to thank the management of Silverwaters Frank Hamagushi for remembering me and giving me a chance to help nurture these young players to become good rugby players,” he said.

Students gathered by the grounds to get a glimpse of the two men, who had once showcased their talents on the Nakasi High School ground.

Principal Vimlesh Lal said they had been in partnership with the team.

He said the Silverwaters team had been training on their school grounds during their preparation for big tournaments.

“Its really a treat for the students to see two rugby superstars who have helped put Fiji on the map in the game of rugby and training right here in our school,” Lal said.

They will play in the Nawaka 7s.
