It seems we are having too many accidents on our roads recently.
Causes can be blamed on a lot of things nowadays, roads, carelessness, as well as ego but I feel that the major factor contributing to this would be attitude.
Drivers’ attitudes these days are of invincibility.
They think that they have a right to drive not licence to drive. It’s this attitude that makes some of them dangerous and putting people at risk.
We have regular checkpoints and patrols but still after crossing all, the drivers start their daredevilry again.
It’s long due that we have unmarked cars and volunteers on roads who can help make Fiji roads safer.
So many millions are spent on recovery from accidents so maybe it’s high time to instigate volunteer and unmarked vehicles to monitor drivers and roads.
This may actually help in bringing death toll down as well as making our road safer.
And cost to implement and run this program will definitely be cheaper than accidents and aftermath cost.
Food for thought?
