FIJI’s team to the 2017 Rugby League World Cup has more experience than the side that went to the previous one, strengthening and conditioning coach Mick Reid said.

Reid, who is also part of the world cup, said this side also had more experienced NRL players.

Yesterday, the team had its last training session at the 1300Smiles Stadium in Townsville, before a recovery session at the Mercure Hotel.

“We’ve got a lot more experience here, we’ve got one local player in Pio Seci and then we’ve got another player Pio Sokobalavu brought in for Korbin Sims.

“He plays in the lower division in Queensland but I probably have more quality NRL players in this squad.”

However, Reid said the last RLWC had brilliant individuals such as Semi Radradra, Marika Koroibete, Sisa Waqa and the Sims brothers.

“This year we’ve got really good players in Pio Nakubuwai and Tui Kamikamica, Jarryd Hayne, Viliame Kikau, big Suli (Vunivalu) and the list goes on.

“When they play for their country, it takes them to another level, that’s the beauty about this side.

“I just love the passion that they bring about playing for their country. I love it and that’s why I keep coming back.”

Meanwhile, Reid heaped praises for Melbourne Storm player Kamikamica, who he said was “one of those guys whose grown every time we have come into camp.

“He keeps bringing something to the game, he is bringing that Melbourne mentality with him,” Reid said.

Meanwhile, Wales captain Chris Kopczak told the media they were ready for Fiji as they were a little “undercooked” against PNG.

“I don’t think they have as much physicality as Papua New Guinea but they have a lot of skill and talent in abundance, and players who are playing in and around the NRL.

“They’ve got great finishers and the NRL’s top tryscorer in their team.

“When you’ve got that kind of arsenal in your side, you’re going to be dangerous. We need to be really physical with them and see how they react,” Kopczak said.
