THREE retired senior fire officers were commended for their dedication and commitment to the National Fire Authority during their farewell at the Nadi Fire Station on Friday.

Among the three was John Pillay, who is leaving the authority after 37 years of service.

Riddled with an ailment, Mr Pillay asked his wife, Pooja to speak on his behalf during the farewell ceremony.

Mrs Pillay said the beginning of their marriage life was not easy but she soon learnt her husband’s commitment wasn’t just for his job but the safety of others.

“Even though his journey ends today, fire safety and awareness will always be paramount in the activities he will do after retirement. The NFA will always be in his heart,” she said.

“I along with our three children would like to thank everyone present here to witness this event.”

NFA acting chief executive officer, Mileta Seniroqa, thanked the three firefighters for their hard work and service to the nation and said the three had left behind a benchmark for other fire fighters to follow.

“These fire officers have played a very important role in the fire service and the implementation of the reforms of the National Fire Authority to date,” Mrs Seniroqa said.

“The three officers retiring today have faithfully served in this profession for more than 20 years and I can only admire them for their loyalty and passion for the firefighting profession.”

She said the achievements of the three officers were indicative of the workforce and qualities of the NFA employees.
