THE launching of new vessel Princess Moana attracted a huge crowd at the jetty in Savusavu as the Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, graced the occasion with his presence.

The rainy evening failed to dampen the spirits of those who attended the event as they braved the wet condition to witness the launching of the vessel that will service the province of Cakaudrove.

Traditional ceremony accorded to Ratu Naiqama reflected the importance of the event as they welcomed the vessel under the banner of Miller Shipping Services.

Company co-owners Panapasa Vonokula and Ross Miller, who were accompanied by Ratu Naiqama for a boat tour, explained their company would soon include a second vessel.

The Princess Moana now services the Natuvu, Taveuni, Rabi and Kioa route. Its comfortable facilities allow many commuters a cosy ride.

Villagers on the islands of Rabi and Kioa will no longer struggle with costs of hiring boats to Natuvu on the Vanua Levu mainland as the Princess Moana has eased these challenges.

Farmers could also use the Princess Moana to transport their cargo from Rabi to Natuvu.

The company executives have also assured customers that the $4million Princess Moana was designed to be the people’s boat.

Mr Vonokula said the boat offered a luxurious sailing experience for the people.

He added prioritising customers and ensuring they enjoyed the trips with Princess Moana was important.

At the launch, Ratu Naiqama said the new shipping services were the pride of the people of Savusavu and Cakaudrove.

He called on his people to learn from the initiative, which was testament that anyone had the ability to carry out such investments.

Ratu Naiqama told his people that all that was needed was unity and commitment to make such investments a success.

The company also plans to extend shipping route with the second vessel that is being designed by co-owner Mr Miller.
