Update: 5:00PM SENIOR police officers are attending a week-long milestone workshop on gender-based violence and women’s human rights.

The Fiji
Women’s Crisis Centre, in partnership with UNDP, is facilitating training
sessions this week at the invitation of the Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho, who joined 20 of his senior officers for the
workshop.

Mr Qiliho said the workshop was timely because he cringed every time he read his
daily briefing reports due to the frequency of violent crimes against women and
girls showing up there.

FWCC
coordinator Shamima Ali said the workshop was a ‘huge milestone for the centre
for being able to bring together a large number of senior officers in the same
room to help improve their understanding of gender-based violence and related
laws.
