Tailevu downs Namosi

TAILEVU recorded a narrow 10-5 win over Namosi in a preseason friendly at the Suva Grammar School ground on Saturday.

A vast improvement in players’ general performance was noted by the Tailevu officials.

“We’re happy about the result of the game,” Tailevu Rugby Union secretary Sirilo Ramenatave said.

“However, we need to touch up on a few things especially with the forwards. I think our line-outs can improve.

“At the moment we are on track with what we’re trying to do with the team.

“We’re almost there in terms of getting out the best from the players.

“We also need to structure the backline,” he said.

Three weeks ago, Tailevu was beaten by Namosi 17-15 in an earlier friendly buildup at Bidesi Park. Namosi lost in the Skipper Cup final last year.

Tailevu will travel to Prince Charles Park to play Nadi in its opening match of the 2016 Skipper Cup on April 23.

Ramenatave said Tailevu officials were hoping for another friendly game on Saturday.

“We’re looking at another game,” he said.

“We want to play Nadroga.

“I’ve had a talk with Tiko (Nadroga Rugby Union president). We hope to confirm details tomorrow (today) or by Tuesday,” Ramenatave said.
