TARAWA – The Australian High Commissioner to Kiribati, Bruce Cowled, has challenged the Kiribati Government to come up with a road safety action plan that will provide immunity to the new road network on South Tarawa.

“We all recognise that the new road will not be immune to road accidents. Let me encourage the implementation of the road safety action plan as a next challenge. An important one for the whole Tarawa community, but especially to the young who remain most vulnerable to road trauma,” said Mr Cowled.

He said the success of the project had been the result of best practice co-financing and collaboration arrangements between governments and a coalition of donors.
