ABOUT 20 teams are expected to compete in this weekend’s Suva Pairs tournament at the Suva Bowling Club.

Club games co-ordinator Samuela Tui said Vilisoni Vakatalai, Ishwar Lal, Sunia Lavaki, Sailosi Babakobau, Babu Khan and Sanjay Bhan were some of the inform players set to challenge for the title in the two-day tourney.

Tui said Vakatalai, Lal, Lavaki and Babakobau were part of the Rewa team that won the Suva Fours tournament recently.

“We’re looking at a minimum of 20 pairs, but the actual registration will be confirmed later,” he said.

Seasoned bowlers like Isireli Tabua, SBC president Dan Lum On, Suren Prasad and Ramesh Chand are expected to challenge for the top prize.

Tui said SBC had aligned its weekly competitions to the national bowling events calendar.

“We think it will give players from our club better chances of winning national events,” he said.

The Rewa club from SBC comprising Vakatalai, veteran Khan, Bhan and Babakobau recently claimed the national fours title in Nadi.

“The national bowling tournaments have been dominated by western clubs in recent years. We want to change that,” Tui said.
