A request has been made to the Commissioner Western’s office for relief supplies to be sent to Vatulele despite it not being affected by Severe TC Winston.

Roko Tui Nadroga Navosa Viliame Qaranivalu said the request was made before Winston hit the country as the island was going through a severe drought.

“People there were suffering because of the drought with no water and food because it was hard to plant,” said Mr Qaranivalu.

“So we made a request to the commissioner’s office but unfortunately the cyclone came and everything was put on hold but now, hopefully the request will be considered.”

Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau said the request was being looked at and assistance would be provided accordingly.

“I know that the request was made and we will look at it and if there is a need, then of course they will be provided with the relief supplies,” said Mr Tagicakibau.
