Rai scores two in win

TWO goals by striker Avikesh Rai helped Nasinu beat Suva 2-0 in the Southern Zone Vodafone Youth League yesterday.

Rai struck in the third minute to give Nasinu an early lead at the Fiji Football Association Academy ground in Vatuwaqa and he doubled the advantage with a late strike. The win helped Nasinu extend its unbeaten run in the Southern Zone Youth League to two games.

Goalkeeper Nemesh Ram, captain Shelvin Nischal and right back Vishal Pal were instrumental for Nasinu while Suva was led by utility Ivan Kumar ‘Guddi’, who made his debut for the senior Suva team in the Vodafone Premier League earlier in the season.

Tireless ‘Guddi’ put in a solid all-round display but did not have good support from his teamates. Nippy Philip Leong, a Year 10 student of Yat Sen Secondary School, displayed good ball skills.

“The boys played well so we managed to come with the victory,” Nasinu coach Ashneel Datt said.

“We organised our defence well and managed to keep the structure. We kept pushing until the end. We will take things game by game,” Datt said regarding Nasinu’s chances of winning the Southern Zone League.

Suva coach Suren Pratap was gracious in defeat.

“The boys worked really hard,” he said.

“We’re giving good training to the boys and hope they will improve.”
