I also share the sentiments of a fellow letter writer that school duties should be done in the afternoon.
As a daily commuter from Nadi to Lautoka, it is really sad to see that schools along the Queens Rd make students do morning duties.
Students are seen picking up rubbish, raking to even cleaning blocked drains with hands.
I strongly feel that although cleanliness is important, the school management should focus on teaching and learning in the mornings as their top most priority rather than cleaning.
When students come to school in the morning they are fresh and their minds are eager to learn, this is the most ideal time for actual learning to take place.
The age old culture of having morning duties being practised by schools needs to go, I’m sure even the principals and head teachers of the concerned schools would not want to dirty their hands and clothes if they are asked to do clean up first thing in the morning.
I hope that Ministry of Education looks into this.
