Medics for Suva Kaji

THE Suva Kaji Rugby Association has clarified their position on the availability of medics at their weekly Saturday competitions.

Association president Michael Koroi said a lot of the misconception around the medics was because of the absence of St John Ambulance personnel.

“We have medics available every weekend. I think the concern is because they don’t see anyone from St John. The reality is we don’t have the kind of money to contract those from St John who charge us $350 per Saturday. Our competition runs for 16 Saturdays and we don’t have that kind of money. Our medics are from the military. We provide them an allowance, transport and food which is within our means,” he said.

He added that the association was required by the Ministry of Education to have medics available during all competitions.

“We don’t start competition until the medics arrive, those are the rules and the medics themselves provide a report to the ministry after each day of competition,” he said.

He added that they were doing their best to ensure the safety of the students and were working round the clock to create a safe playing environment.
