Fijiana rep Asinate Savu will miss Olympic Games

FIJIANA rep Asinate Savu is the first player in the team that will now miss the Rio Summer Olympics in August.

Savu was injured in Atlanta in the last leg of the Women’s Sevens Series and went through surgery in the United States last month.

Telecom Fijiana coach Iliesa Tanivula confirmed this yesterday.

“Nate was one of the likely ones who would make it, but that’s not to be now,” Tanivula said.

“She’s in the States. We left her there when we went to play in Atlanta so that she could go for operation, so she will miss Rio now because she has to rest for six months.”

Savu has been a regular Fijiana rep, but injury has taken her off the list for the August games in Rio.

Tanivula said “every tournament throughout the series has been tough on all the teams and everyone is looking forward to Rio.”

He said now preparation has sort of built up and they have been fortunate to be part of the series which has allowed them to gauge themselves.

Meanwhile, the team to the last leg of the series in France will see two new players in Ebony Satala and Asena Roko.

The squad for the France 7s leg are: Brittany Coates, Talica Vodo, Ebony Satala, Jiowana Sauto, Viniana Riwai, Merewai Cumu, Miriama Naiobasali, Asena Roko, Rebecca Tavo, Ana Maria Roqica, Luisa Basei, Rusila Nagasau.
