Update: 5:47PM TWENTY-SEVEN top ranking police officers from the Western Division will gather tomorrow for a week-long workshop on gender, violence against women, human rights and laws on gender-based violence.
The workshop, which will be held at the Hexagon Hotel in Nadi, is facilitated by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre with funding from UNDP.
It is aimed at helping senior officers increase their knowledge and improve their understanding of violence against women and girls, improve their skills and sensitivity in responding appropriately to female victims reporting gender-based violence and inform policy.
The training is also aimed at helping the officers better understand gender-based violence legislation and recognise the link between policing and human rights.
Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho will open the workshop at 9am tomorrow and the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is expected to close it at 2pm on Friday.
