THE National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) says the divisional commissioners are satisfied with their work on the ground, particularly with the distribution of food rations to areas affected by Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.
He made those comments following issues raised by some villagers in Nakorotubu, Ra where they claimed they had received little supplies from the ration distributed.
Saioko villagers told this newspaper they were assisted three times by Government, each of the past two rations consisted of 2kg rice, 4kg flour, 2kg sugar, two tins of canned fish, about 2kg dhal and other food items.
They had to write again to the district officer seeking further assistance with food three months after the cyclone because of the massive destruction caused to their food security.
NDMO director Akapusi Tuifagalele said Government would not abdicate its responsibility to the people but unfortunately some people would never be satisfied with whatever government assistance was provided to them.
He stressed the emergency period had concluded on April 19 when ration distribution was effective.
“Divisional commissioners are satisfied with their work on the ground regarding communities in their divisions and they have done their best with their teams,” Mr Tuifagalele said.
“If people are still asking for help after the declared emergency period, they should refer their grievances to their district officer or the divisional commissioner’s office and not the media.”
