FemLINKPACIFIC raises kidnap of children issue

Update: 1:19PM GOVERNMENT should use all measures possible to make sure children are not abducted, sold or trafficked.

This was part of a submission by FemLINKPACIFIC director Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence on the Hague Convention on the Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in Respect of the Parental responsibility and measures for the protection of children (1996 Convention).

Regarding Article 11 on kidnapping, Ms Bhagwan-Rolls said Government should take steps to stop children being taken out of their country illegally.

“This article is particularly concerned with parental abductions. The Convention Optional protocol on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography has a provision that concerns abduction for financial gain,” she said.
