Bridge brings relief to villagers

Update: 3:57PM THE recently constructed Vunivaivai Bridge in Tailevu, which is now operational, is said to be of great benefit to thousands of people in the province.

Fiji Roads Authority’s program manager for bridges and jetties, Nixon Toremana said the 55 metre bridge was built within one year, something that is a huge achievement for them.

“The original bridge was not safe for vehicles and public use due to the deteriorating condition of the bridge superstructure. As a result, we had to demolish the old bridge and build a new one,” he said.

Mr Toremana says the new and improved bridge will help improve traffic flow for the local community and the bridge is designed to comply with the 100 years design life.

He said the new bridge cost FRA about $5million under the Bridges and Jetties Renewals Budget.
