Jone aims for Rio spot

HAVING had his leg amputated in 2006 after an accident Jone Bogidrau did not let the disability stop him from achieving his dreams.

The Nasigatoka, Rewa native said he was hoping to attain a universality place to the Rio Paralympics and hoped he had done enough to make it.

“Our qualifier for Rio is complete and I am hoping that I get the wild card to Rio for the Paralympics.

“This competition has really helped me lift my standard of performance. I was able to reach my personal best and I didn’t think that I would be able to make it,” he said.

Bogidrau participated in the Seated Para shot where he threw a distance of 9m. The qualifying distance for Rio is 10m.

“In 2006 I had been drunk and had fallen off the bus and the bus had run over my foot that led to it being amputated but I worked at being better again and to take up sport again. I am not new to athletics.

“I had been an athlete while at Ratu Kadavulevu School and so all of this is not new to me. I am just glad I am able to pick up the pieces and get to where I am now,” he said.
