It is very easy to twist my words but I still see “men’s crisis centre” is a relevant issue and topic.
I don’t want to call myself a “male” advocate, I’d rather be known as a “humanitarian”.
Abuse against men does happen and it’s part of our society. And as a writer with a little bit of responsibility, I feel it’s my duty to weasel these issues out in the public.
As for statistics, here is one for all the naysayers.
I believe in January 2016 Fiji police revealed more than 620 people committed suicide in the past five years and out of that, 56 per cent were male.
Like I said, men would rather not tell anyone of their abuse for fear of being ridiculed.
All these suppressed trauma and emotions do sometimes lead them to the door of death. I’m not being male chauvinist but as a male, I have to stand up for male rights, otherwise I’ll be a hypocrite.
