Eels, Waratahs target Hayne

JARRYD HAYNE is keeping everyone guessing about his playing future with reports linking him to both rugby league and rugby union.

His manager is said to have been in extensive talks with Hayne’s old NRL club Parramatta about making a return.

The chances of such a comeback have risen with news that Kieran Foran has walked out on his $5 million contract with the club. The Kiwi international says he wants a break from the NRL.

That clears the way for Parramatta to be able to afford Hayne, who would likely command around $1 million a season.

But while that speculation continues, Hayne has also been linked to Super Rugby side, the NSW Waratahs.

Team coach Daryl Gibson has confirmed he would be interested in Hayne.

Waratahs star and fellow code-jumper Israel Folau says Hayne would be a welcome addition.

“He is naturally talented enough to pick up the game and play it. It would be nice to get someone like Jarryd come and join you. He would be a great boost for the team no doubt,” said Folau.

While clubs form a queue for his services, Hayne was dropped from the National 7s team’s campaign to the Rio Olympics.

Fiji coach Ben Ryan and the Fiji Rugby Union will release the names of the Fijian men’s and women’s squads on Saturday.
