Update: 4:02PM POLICE have asked parents and guardians to be careful of their children when they are playing around at home.

The request comes after the death of an 11-month-old boy by drowning at Nabekavu in Labasa yesterday afternoon.

The baby’s father returned home to find him inside a bucket full of water. His attempts to revive his son were futile.

“Such tragedy can be avoided if we are more careful and vigilant at all times,” said police spokesman Inspector Josaia Weicavu.

“This is one of the sad cases of drowning to be experienced, hence we request parents, guardians and adults to be attentive to little children always,” he said.

Police are carrying out investigations into the tragic incident.
