Details on sunken vessels to be made public

A SUMMARY of investigations into the MV Suilven that sank in the Suva Harbour last year will be made public by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).

MSAF chief executive officer John Tunidau said the organisation was in the process of preparing the report.

“Decisions have been done and we will provide a summary on lessons learnt and that will go on our website and will be accessible to the public, just like what they do in New Zealand and Australia,” Mr Tunidau said.

“We are compiling the summary now as there will be a particular section on our website where we will be putting up summaries and lessons learnt on some incidents, including the main ones such as the MV Suilven.

“The MSAF investigation is not for blaming, it’s there to learn what had happened and to prevent future accidents and we will be putting up the summary to be made accessible to everyone,” he said.

Venu Shipping Ltd director Ben Naidu, owner of the MV Suilven, had said he would not comment on the case as it was still under investigation.

Venu Shipping Ltd also has two vessels that ran aground in Fiji earlier this year.
