PARTICIPANTS from 10 villages in the Western Division are part of a three-day sports clinic to learn how sports can help in healthy living.
Fiji National Sports Commission development officer West Josaia Tuinamata said they received requests from the districts of Sabeto, Vaturu and Vuda to conduct clinics.
“These three tikina have 10 villages and we had asked that four participants from each village be part of the program.
“We have exceeded that, which is a good sign in terms of sports development and healthy living,” he said.
The clinic ropes in representatives from rugby union, rugby league and netball and the Ministry of Health. This is good sign because it gives us an opportunity to teach the basics and the rule associated with a particular sport. We even help teach them how to organise an event.
“We will have representatives from the Ministry of Health teach them on proper diets and non-communicable diseases. This is to empower them in their personal identity,” he said.
