Individuals applying for positions as section managers for Team Fiji will be required to be accredited with relevant Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP) qualifications to be considered as potential managers for the 2023 Pacific Games.
Ten potential managers representing national federations attended FASANOC’s OSEP Course in the first of a series of courses targeted at the entourage of Team Fiji to the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in November 2023.
The OSEP training team from Kiliati Enterprise includes the OSEP mentor Talemo Waqa working along with educators Seru Ramakita and KumOn Tarawa.
The course started on Monday and ends on Friday.
Upon successful completion of the section manager training program, the participants will be able to prepare the team in four different stages namely design, develop, implement and review for any games their teams attend.
OSEP educator KumOn said: “It is very important that potential team managers understand the standards Team Fiji has, the games charter and live up to the standards set out so that the national federations are better prepared or Games ready.”
Potential managers were nominated from their respective national federations and attending were representatives from Basketball, Volleyball, Chess, Yachting, Rugby and Touch Rugby.
FASANOC Team Fiji senior administrator Jane Niubalavu said the objective of the OSEP courses was two-fold.
“The first is to ensure the entourage accompanying the athletes understand their roles and responsibilities in supporting the athletes in the lead up and during Games times,” she said.
“The second is to ensure standardisation across sports so that they apply the learning’s for their own development and competitions both locally and overseas.”
Team Fiji will hope to participate in 25 of the sports that will be on the 2023 Pacific Games program which includes: Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Basketball, 3×3 basketball, Boxing, Football, Golf, Hockey, Karate, Netball, Outrigger canoeing, Powerlifting, Rugby league nines, Rugby sevens, Sailing, Swimming, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Touch rugby, Triathlon, Volleyball, Beach volleyball and Weightlifting.
