The Fijian Elections Office has registered 689,974 voters on the National Register of Voters on September 3, says Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

During a media conference last week, Mr Saneem said overall they managed to register 62000 Fijians during its final registration drive.

“This is made up of 346,129 males and 343,845 females,” he said.

“In terms of the distribution we have 9269 voters who are registered to vote from overseas.

“We have 36,542 voters from the Eastern Division, 99,636 voters in the Northern Division, 258,496 voters in the Western Division and 29,631 voters in the Central Division.

“The last registration drive which ended on September 3 has taken the number of 18-20 years old registered to vote in this election to 3763.”

Mr Saneem said the largest cohorts of voters was from 31-40 years-old at 157,869 and 21-30 years-old was 155,812.

“We can safely say the majority of the voting population for the next general election is below the age of 40.”
