Airline to expand its global network

Fiji Airways will continue to invest in advance fuel efficient modern aircrafts, says Minister for Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka.

Mr Gavoka told Parliament this week the national airline was looking at purchasing two new A350 airbus.

“These aircrafts are the most advanced in commercial aviation and a remarkable addition to our fleet. With added fleets we have the option to fly to routes that are in demand and the flexibility to explore other markets.”

Mr Gavoka said Fiji Airways was expanding its global network.

“Which means that it would continue to invest in new routes.

“We are already reporting strong numbers since the direct flights to Vancouver in Canada and by April will also be returning to Japan and Hong Kong.

“The forecast of 2023 is to carry 2 million passengers and revenue of $1.5 billion.

“The Northern American income market is a huge potential for us. “We are now exploring the possibility of flying to Dallas, Seattle or Houston without comprising our position on open skies.”

Mr Gavoka said the national carrier was a five-star rated airline that was on a journey to becoming world class.

“A fleet that very few airlines have achieved.”

“Over 90 per cent of visitors to Fiji arrive by air and for us our national airline carries 70 per cent of arrivals.”
