EDUCATION Minister Aseri Radrodro says the coalition Government is still trying to finalise the details in terms of the scholarships offered to university students.
There were concerns raised by continuing students on whether they would be able to pursue studies this year under a government scholarship.
Responding to queries from this newspaper outside his office yesterday Mr Radrodro said for Fijians to wait for the official announcement today.
On Wednesday following the post-Cabinet announcement with the media Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said they had considered a submission from the Education Minister on the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TELS) and agreed that more time be given to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Solicitor-General’s Office to thoroughly consider the legal and financial implications of the suspension of existing loan repayments and write-off for all outstanding student debts owed to Government.
He said Cabinet also agreed the current arrangement on TELS would continue for Semester One, 2023 and would also be extended to students who wish to undertake foundation studies.
Despite this announcement, many students called for more details on the program.
