The Electoral Commission has appointed FijiFirst party candidate Sachida Nand to fill one of two vacant seats in the Opposition benches.

This follows a meeting of the newly-appointed EC members yesterday.

The meeting was chaired by interim chairwoman, Suva lawyer Barbara Malimali.

“I am happy with the decisions we have been able to make today,” Ms Malimali said.

“Particularly on the fact that the EC is at the moment gender balanced and made up of members from diverse backgrounds, experience and shared values in good governance.

“We have decided on sitting dates and we are looking forward to having our induction workshop and dealing with outstanding matters before the commission.”
