Alleged sacrilege at Saweni mosque

Sirajun Islam Association of Fiji president Abu Pakar Sadiq Koya is urging the Fiji Police Force to take the case of an alleged sacrilege at the Saweni mosque in Lautoka seriously.

During an interview with The Fiji Times yesterday, Mr Koya said the incident was the second to happen at their place of worship.

It is alleged that on Friday at around 5am thieves had broken into the mosque and stole a Maxton Smart TV worth $3000.

The suspects had gained entry by forcing open the hall’s sliding window. Mr Koya said he had filed a statement with police on Saturday and was still waiting for a response from them. “I’m still waiting for police to conduct the fingerprints check,” he said.

“The culprits who did this are still roaming around the area, and this is the second time we have witnessed another robbery.”

Divisional Police Commander, Western (DPC/W) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa had confirmed a person had broken into the mosque and stole a flat screen TV.

He said investigations continue.
