ALZAID Shail Rizwan Ali, 48, has been granted bail by the High Court in Lautoka.

Mr Rizwan Ali and his de-facto partner Grace Katia Liuvoliga, 19, are charged in relation to the seizure of more than 12.33 kilograms of cocaine on February 15 at the Vuda Bypass Rd in Lautoka.

It is alleged the two were transporting the drugs from the Vuda Bypass Rd to Field 40 when the police intercepted them.

High Court judge Justice Riyaz Hamza said even though the State had objected to his bail application, he considered all the factors in the submission made by defence lawyer Iqbal Khan sufficient to approve his bail application.

Justice Hamza said if the accused was going to breach his bail conditions, he would remain in custody until the end of the case.

Ms Liuvoliga was released on bail last month and the DPP has decided to make submissions to her in the event she agrees to become a State witness when granted immunity.

The substantive matter has been adjourned to June 17.
