High Court judge Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday reminded local journalists and overseas media to verify information before reporting it.
This follows claims of about one tonne of methamphetamine from the Nadi drug raid earlier this year had gone missing.
Acting Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku said in court that The Fiji Times had corrected the report in yesterday’s newspaper under the headline ‘Get your facts right’.
Mr Rabuku said the drugs in question were under heavy guard and on 24-hour surveillance in a secure location. He informed Justice Aluthge that he sometimes wondered what data the overseas media were basing their reports on.
In response, Justice Aluthge said Fiji had become a hot-spot for the drugs issue.
“Please verify and get correct information and report,” he said.
Justice Aluthge said the court and the DPPs office were available for information should the media wish to seek clarification on any matter.
