Bulitavu: Big plans in place to tackle climate change

ENVIRONMENT and Climate Change Minister Mosese Bulitavu says they were working with development partners on funding nature-based seawall projects.

During an interview with members of the media in Nadi yesterday, Mr Bulitavu said there were programs in place within the ministry.

“We have got big plans in the ministry especially on climate change,” he said.

“We are working with our development partners, and we have our adaptation fund that is there which funds various projects like the nature-based seawall.

And relocation for those that have been affected through climate change.”

Mr Bulitavu said they were also working on building flood gates for saltwater intrusion on farms.

“These are some of the issues that we see as priorities.

“But there are other issues we are working on with the local government in terms of drainage given that places in Nadi are vulnerable to floods and flash floods.

“We are looking at how we can work with the Ministry of Public Works on getting weather resilient infrastructure in place.

“Some of them are ageing infrastructure,” he said.
