The Fiji Roads Authority will carry out local area traffic management (LATM) trials around Nadi Town aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, says FRA executive chairman Atunaisa Nayago.
To facilitate these trials, Mr Nayago said, the authority’s contractor would undertake demolition, and reconstruction works on existing structures within the town area to facilitate the required redesigned traffic flow layout.
“As part of the trials, all traffic signals within the town area will also be temporarily turned off,” Mr Nayago said.
“Motorists are advised to be aware of these changes and to follow all posted temporary signs while navigating through Nadi Town.
“A traffic management team will also be directing/assisting traffic during the three months to assist motorists.”
Demolition and reconstruction period: November 23 to December 8, 2024
• New layout trial period: December 8, 2024 – March 8, 2025 (3 months)
Re-design layout changes:
n Queens Rd (Main St) – traffic to be reverted to a single lane two-way traffic flow.
n Andrews Rd and Raniga St – both roads to become single lane two-way traffic flow.
n Naitavo Lane – the direction of traffic to be reversed to optimise traffic flow. Single lane one-way traffic flow.
n Sahu Khan Lane, Clay St, and Market Lane – these roads will remain one-way. Single lane one-way traffic flow.
