7 days left for contest entries

TO all aspiring composers and singers, there are only seven days to go before entries for the Domo Vou Talei competition closes, says Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) chairman Eremasi Tamanisau.

The Fiji Times is putting up the $5000 to the lucky young talent who wins the original song competition for unsigned artists.

Tamanisau said musicians and composers taking part in the contest would also get recognised internationally.

“The publicity of the work is not only locally but internationally because the whole world is connected now,” he said.

“So this also becomes available on the internet through live stream.

“You do an original piece of work in Fiji and it would be known worldwide.

“The more this work is used overseas, because it’s an original work, the copyright for the use of the song comes directly to the composer of that work.”

He said the finalists would also get the opportunity to be exposed with ABC’s Pacific Beat Island Music Show.

“It’s a great opportunity to be involved with a big television company and with direct assistance from the Australian government.

“We have never had that sort of partnership between the government and musicians.

“The $5000 prize money courtesy of The Fiji Times and $3000 courtesy of Westpac Banking Corporation are excellent prizes and they can do a lot towards developing further the talents and the abilities of the winner in upgrading their professional development going on to whatever commercial path they wish to follow.”

Entries for the Domo Vou Talei competition close on June 14.
